IHC-Validated Excitatory Amino Acid Transporters (EAATs) Antibodies for Neuroscience Research
The excitatory amino acid transporters (EAATs) function in the reuptake of glutamate, a role of vital importance given that an elevated level of this neurotransmitter in the synaptic cleft is known to cause excitotoxic neuronal death. Disruption of the complex network mediating EAAT function can result in glutamate spillover with subsequent compromised neuroplasticity, with potential ramifications for the development of both neurological and neuropsychiatric disease.
Five EAATs (EAAT1-5) have been identified. EAAT1 and EAAT2 are expressed primarily by astroglial cells, while EAAT3-5 are found in neurons. Of the neuronal EAATs, EAAT4 is expressed in Purkinje cells while EAAT5 is detected in the retina. GeneTex is proud to offer a selection of highly sensitive IHC-validated antibodies to detect different EAATs in various species. They also provide other outstanding antibody reagents for vGluT Transporters and Ion Channels.
