Notes | Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are immunoglobulins that are related to diverse clinical phenomena, such as arterial and venous thrombosis, complications of pregnancy, livedo reticularis, valvular disease, neurologic disorders, and thrombocytopenia. The term antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is used to link thrombosis or pregnancy morbidity to the persistence of aPL as one of the most common causes of acquired thrombophilia. Antibodies against phosphatidylserine/prothrombin complex (anti-PS/PT) are highly associated with the APS, and are the major autoantibodies responsible for lupus anticoagulant (LA) activity. Antibodies included in this reagents recognize PS/PT complex and have LA activity in human plasma, so cloud be useful for study of LA. |
